What follows are actual page headers from: J.W. Buel’s ”The World’s Unknown: An All-Embracing History of a Century of Exploration and Discovery,” published by Arkell Publishing Company in 1898. Each of this venerable tome’s 455 pages is graced by a summary; these alternate between descriptive, lurid and hilarious – often all at once. String a few of these together as “chapter titles” and you’ve got the outline for a great pulpy adventure serial. Enjoy!

Here’s the cite; you can probably ILL it from your local library. The book is not nearly as good as the page headers might suggest, though.
Buel, James William. The World’s Unknown: an all-embracing history of a century of exploration and discovery, recording in graphic narrative the strange experiences, thrilling adventures, and great achievements of the most famous travelers. 1898.
Much of it was recycled from The World’s Wonders: http://openlibrary.org/books/OL23362377M/The_world%27s_wonders_as_seen_by_the_great_tropical_and_polar_explorers
Buel was kind of a hack.
